Phillips Industries Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Coiled Electrical Cable Development

Santa Fe Springs, CA (August 9, 2005) Phillips coiled electrical cables are recognized as the industry leader and are standard equipment on the majority of Class 8 truck models manufactured in the U.S. The forerunner of today’s industry-standard coiled electrical cable was developed by Phillips Industries 30 years ago to meet the needs of trucking fleets for a lightweight electrical connection between the trailer and the tractor. Although many didn’t see a practical use, at the time, for a lightweight, synthetic coiled cable, the people at Phillips Industries thought differently and worked for more than a year in blending plastic compounds together to develop the concept. In the mid 1970’s, a blend was created that provided both the required flexibility in extreme cold weather as well as maintaining its recoil memory in high heat applications. In recognizing this important anniversary for his company, Bob Phillips, President of Phillips Industries stated that “We’re extremely proud of the ability of our people to find solutions to industry problems, and the overall acceptance of coiled electrical cables today just validates our efforts. We hope to have another 30 years as successful as the last.”

In keeping with its motto “We build products that make a difference” Phillips builds electrical coils for practically every market segment from heavy duty Class 8’s to rental and recreational vehicles, meeting the unique demands of each operating environment. For Class 8 applications Phillips builds top of the line 5-year warranted coils as well as cables that satisfy the low-price buyer’s objectives. Performance rated cables operate from -90 degree to 230 degree temperatures, and have excellent ratings for recoil memory, chemical resistance and abrasion resistance. Additional features include finger grips for easy coupling and uncoupling and the new QCP™, a corrosion protected cable assembly, has the added feature of a quick and easy plug cartridge replacement for on the road repairs.
