Ryder Chooses Phillips PERMALITE for Trailers

Santa Fe Springs, CA (April 3, 2006) Phillips Industries today announced that Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a global leader in transportation and supply chain management solutions, has chosen its PERMALITE™ fluorescent trailer lighting fixture as standard equipment for all new refrigerated trailer purchases. Ryder’s “Maintenance Promise” to its customers is to provide reliable transportation solutions that improve operational efficiency and minimize downtime due to maintenance issues. Troy Argraves, Service Support Manager for Ryder, explained that “with PERMALITE™, we have experienced an increased in the life cycle for trailer fluorescent lighting, thus reducing the amount of time a trailer needs to be in the shop. Phillips has once again given us a solution that helps us increase vehicle uptime for our customers.”

PERMALITE™, the innovative fluorescent dome trailer lamp developed by Phillips Industries, features an efficient ballast that suppresses start-up surge and pulls less amps, extending lamp and bulb life. Repair costs are further reduced because the low-profile, impact-resistant polycarbonate housing and unbreakable lens protect the unit from extreme conditions and routine trailer loading and cargo damage. Phillips has addressed many safety issues with the PERMALITE™. Phillips claims that a lower-demand ballast circuit means a trailer can run up to 6 lamps, each with a 24 watt 12,000 hour fluorescent bulb, increasing visibility for shipping and receiving personnel. Additionally, the unique design negates the need for costly, complex and often dangerous heat strips and fits in most standard refrigerated trailers.
